In the last few years, the American Institute of Architects realized that the home office is the most common “extra” room being designed in new homes. This is partially due to telecommuting, but at times it is to support after-school emailing or just maintaining the computer in a open area and out of the kid’s rooms. This creates for greater access for everyone in the house.
A home office could be a small desk slipped into the family room, or a dedicated room with a full compliment of office equipment. The characteristic that both offices share, though, is lighting constraints which are different from the remainder of your living space, such as Solar Security Lights. Home office lighting fills the double purpose of creating a low-stress work area and including specific task lighting for the activities you would like to accomplish there. Both of which are essential.
Once you decide on your furnishings and equipment, you’ll have an opportunity to look at both natural and artificial illumination. The most important consideration in today’s home office is the orientation of windows relative to the orientation of the computer monitor. Having natural Solar Post Light in a workspace is generally an advantage, yet you don’t want a glare on the monitor. Positioning the monitor opposite to the window would be the sensible solution, but occasionally that simply is not an option. In these circumstances, shades can be a second-best fix. Simply try to change things up and do your best to find the perfect solution.
The room should require a good general light fixture, augmented by layers of task lighting. Ensure there is suitable light in the room for performing the task at hand, although the office does not need to be 100% lit all the time. A centrally located ceiling lamp would be a sensible general purpose light, although recessed or track lighting would be more efficient at distributing the light to cover a larger office. The task lighting on the desk should not glare on the monitor, and rope lighting or adjustable lamps can diminish glare on multiple work surfaces, so do your best to be cautious.
Home office lighting is not exclusively for work areas, by the way. Accent lighting could be employed to compliment decorative paintings or certificates. If you are currently employing Solar Post Security Lights for the general purpose lighting, these lights can additionally be adapted for accent lighting. If not, then recessed spot lights or up lights can be strategically placed within the space, this can be very helpful.
