With home renovations increasingly an ever more popular pastime for people, it’s not surprising that the thought of fitting out your garden with a fantastic looking, and superbly functional wooden deck has turned hugely popular in the last few years and is one of the best DIY home improvement tasks you can actually do yourself, in this article you will find some fantastic decking ideas to get you started.
Many home decks are built by do-it-yourself enthusiasts, which often ends with decks that lack muchin the way of style, and often are contradictory to the rest of the house as far as its overall look is concerned. This does not have to be the situation however, with a little careful planning and and eye on the details its entirely possible for the do-it-yourself enthusiast to design and build a unique, great looking and stylish deck without the need to employ the pros.
Here we look at what you can do as a home owner to build a better looking deck for your home, and give you some ideas on how you can develop your own great decking ideas and designs.
Firstly, you need to think about what your deck will be made of. While in most cases the main material will be wood, that’s not the only option, and if it is wood the choice of wood is a decision that can make or break the success of deck in your garden, and taking a little extra time to select the best material will pay big dividends once the project is finished and you relax on your nice new decking.
Other materials that can be selected for decking include aluminum, which though a more expensive option, and a harder challenge to construct for the do-it-yourself fan, can sometimes add a great sense of style to the right type of home, in most cases though you will be choosing wood for your decking and woods such as Cedar make a fantastic basis for decking, as does Redwood.
To get an even more plush feel you may think about Mahogany, which though often more expensive than many other woods, can certainly add style to a home when styled and built with some forethought and preparation.
Careful thought must be put into the planning of your decking, having ideas for designs which will not compliment the look of your home will not end in a wonderful and complimentary end result. You should attempt to design and build the deck to match your home, and not rush ahead with the saw and nail gun and end up with a result that looks wrong, or worse actually lowers the value of your home.
Obviously in the end how you design and build your deck is up to you, but by making sure you match the look of your decking with the look of your home, you will have a result that compliments your home, raises its value, and is a real pleasure to spend your time on, and that, after-all, is the aim.
