Getting Vinyl Shutters for Your Home
See more in Garden Design
Interior shutters can give a finished look to all of your rooms. Interior shutters have been a part of interior decor for years. Once upon a time, all interior shutters were crafted from wood. There was no alternative. Plastic would look ridiculous and metal just wouldn’t work. In our time, though, there are diverse designs of interior house shutters and some options instead of wood.
One type of interior shutter that is gaining acceptance among shoppers is vinyl house shutters. There is no consensus over which type of shutter is better. There are advantages and disadvantages regarding both vinyl and wood interior shutters.
Wooden shutters
Wooden house shutters look elegant and are quite old-fashioned. They bring an appearance of richness to any house, whether they are used inside or on the outside. The majority of consumers prefer the appearance of real wood, and the fact that wooden shutters are strong and durable as well.
Wooden shutters can be quite handsome, when stained or painted. They need to be either stained or painted and sealed in advance of mounting. Then, as time wears on, they need to be re-painted and re-sealed. Maintaining wooden shutters uses both cash and sweat. They are also very pricey to purchase, especially if you request them pre stained.
Wooden shutters are also subject to mold and termites. Because they are comprised of plant matter, they will someday rot.
Vinyl shutters
Vinyl shutters are maintenance free. They do not require any painting, staining or sealing no matter how long you own them. They can be found in quite a few different colors and types and are an eye-catching, maintenance free choice for shutters for your home.
Regrettably, vinyl shutters can get marks in them whenever anything is thrown at them, like hail or a baseball. Although wood can get dings as well, vinyl seems to be easier to mark because it is a less hardy material. Many people do not like vinyl because it is cheap and can look cheap. There are still many consumers who favor real wood.
Vinyl shutters are, let’s face it, plastic. A few are made to resemble real wood, but are obvious to the observant eye. While vinyl shutters are less expensive than wood shutters and do not need fussing over, wood shutters are still preferred by most buyers.
Your ultimate selection of house shutters will depend upon your budget, style preferences, and how much much effort you intend to spend taking care of the shutters. If you would be happier with a shutter that will not require any maintenance and looks appealing on or in your home, you should look at vinyl house shutters.
If you do not mind staining and painting your shutters regularly and do not mind spending a bit more money, you will probably like wooden shutters. Whichever kind you choose, shutters can be a attractive improvement to any home and come in quite a few styles, shapes and colors. Whether you choose vinyl or wood, you will almost certainly find the house shutters that live up to your expectations and add a touch of glamour to your home.
