Planning is the very first step that you should do in learning how to build a pond. Find a spot in your home and try to come up with a design that will fit best in that area. Choose a design that will fit perfectly in the area that you have chosen. Keep in mind that an oversized pond is never good, so choose a size that is appropriate with the space that you have. It is also advisable that you place the pond in an area where there is a tree above it, this is so you can save time from cleaning it from the leaves that fall off. Placing the pond in an area where it can be hit by direct sunlight is also not advisable because it might kill some of your fish in the pond.
The very first tep in learning how to build a pond after the planning is to start with the excavation. The whole that you dig should be deep enough, depending on the design. Make the surface of the whole that you have dug free from lumps and stones. Then pour sand to the bottom of the pond, about an inch thick. Use a pond liner to cover the surface of the pond. Do not forget in smoothing the surface of the pond. Lastly, what you do is to add enough water, not too much because your fish might get too excited and jump out from your newly built pond. If you wish to, you can add rocks in the water and the sides of the pond. After building the pond, wait for at least two days before you put in some fish.
