How To Kill Bedbugs So That They Aren’t Going To Strike Again
See more in Pests and Disease
Most of us came up through our formative years never dreaming of the chance of bed bugs. We might have been told that they’d been a pestilence years ago, but we never imagined them as a part of our world at all. Things have changed in the past decades, though. Bed bugs have come back with a vengeance, and people now need to employ modern technologies in order to eradicate the annoying bugs. Once again we have to learn how to kill bedbugs.
The Cimex Lectularius is the most common kind of bed bugs, and they like living off humans even though other sorts of bed bugs would rather have animal hosts, such as bats or birds. Bed bugs are brown or dark red, about a fourth of an inch long, and have oval-shaped bodies. Since these bugs began appearing in people’s dwellings again a few years ago, more and more people are trying to find the ideal ways to get rid of them and eliminate the problem.
The old-fashioned ways of killing bed bugs, such as washing bedding and garments in extremely hot water, still are effective. In addition, though, we now have clothes driers which, when set on the highest heat, do a good job of destroying the bugs. For items that weren’t designed to withstand the heat, modern food freezers make a remarkable alternative. Still, there are extra-large, bulky items, like mattresses, which have to be wrapped in black plastic and then left out to bake for awhile in the sun. As heat grows inside the plastic, the bugs are destroyed. Sadly, this way of doing things can take up to two weeks and might destroy the things inside the plastic instead of just the bugs.
The Optimum Place to Kill Bed Bugs: In their Hiding Places
A majority of people are curious how to destroy bed bugs in their hiding places, especially if they don’t really know where the source is. Because of this, it’s generally the best bet to hire a professional exterminator. What happens with bed bugs is that in the daytime they hide away in areas that make it impossible for most of us to locate them, such as underneath baseboards. They only come out at night to feed on people as they are getting some sleep. Before the people wake up in the morning, the bugs have skeddadled back to their hideouts.
Imagine what a nasty awakening it would be to awaken covered with bites and blood from the bites. You’d certainly want to find the most effective remedy quickly. There are chemicals which have only a slight a scent that can be used successfully, but, remember, chemicals are better left in the hands of the professionals. These people are trained in the handling of hazardous chemicals as well as in pinpointing the areas where the bugs are hiding.
An alternative type of chemical kills the bed bug colony by causing male infertility. This is critical since a female bug will lay as many as 200 to 500 eggs at one time. These chemicals have been demonstrated to work effectively, but they won’t do it immediately, and if more eggs hatch before the chemical takes effect, the male hatchlings may not be bothered at all, since the chemical may have already worn off.
If you or someone you know ever has bedbugs, it’s a sure bet that you’re going to need to learn how to kill bedbugs so that you can eliminate them for good.
