Every year as soon as the grass turns green, garden owners around the world get anxious to start on their lawns. If they give their lawn enough love and care and just the right amount of patience, they are going to enjoy having a green lawn for many months to come.
For example, new grass inspires the garden owner to spread fertilizer in order for the young blades to flourish. One of the most common practices is to use natural fertilizers on your fescue and bluegrass lawns so this is what most gardeners opt for. Organic some only good for the soil, but they’re great for the environment too.
Most generally the fall is the proper time to apply organic fertilizer to your lawn. This is so that the roots can sustain the plants until summer. If you happen to miss the fertilizer application during the fall you can still do it in the spring. The amount of nutrients in the organic fertilizer must be a half pound of nitrogen for every 1000 sq. ft.
Lime is another organic lawn care product that can be used. This is often applied during early spring after the soil tests. There are a lot of different grass types that have their best growth whenever you can get the soil pH between 6.0 and 7.0. It is important for any garden owner to have their soil analyzed every 2 to 3 years. The results from the soil tests determine how much lime must be applied.
In order to control the growth of crabgrass, you’re going to have to put on pre-emergent organic herbicides between the months of March and April. Every once in a while crabgrass will spring up but it can be controlled with organic herbicides. If your crabgrass has already started growing though however it won’t affect it. Therefore, the best time to apply herbicides is when crabgrass is still sprouting.
Spraying fertilizer is mostly done during the fall. Spraying weed killer can also be done during this time. Just make sure that the weeds are growing. During the dry season, spray your weeds when they are growing.
Whenever you are applying herbicides, fungicides, and insecticides, you need to make sure that you use a different sprayer for each one. It is vitally important to make sure that you mark your sprayers according to what is in them and accurately. Just a simple mistake of mixing any one of the lawn care products with another one can end up hurting your plants permanently.
In might be a little early to begin insect control in March, but your lawn care must always begin in the early spring. If you missed feeding it during the fall, then you can compensate for it during this season.
If you would like to read more on organic gardening and easy lawn care, then now is the time. Start gearing up for the fall and the time to prepare that lawn for those long winter months.
