Piecing Landscaping Ideas Together
See more in Garden Design
As you get started with your landscape design project, you’ve most probably noticed a lot of extraordinary landscape design plans and ideas. You can’t help but wonder how some designers think up these beautiful designs. Choosing plants, coming up with design shapes, deciding on materials, and countless design details are most often beyond the scope of a beginner to put all together.
Designers with years of experience may simply call on their repetitive ideas and experience. For others, it’s vision. And many times one simply has to try a lot of different ideas until one of them works. Most of the folks in this last group are home owners and do it yourselfers. Without a clue about landscaping, most desparate do it yourselfers look for pictures of landscaping and yards with the perfect ideas and plans that might work well in their own landscape.
Considering the enless choice of books and directories of landscaping picture ideas, most would think it easy to find the perfect design plan that could at be replicated. It probably would be If every yard was the same shape. However, in reality, most yards and lots are all different shapes and sizes. Even with the endless landscape designs and ideas out there, it’s doubtful that you will find a perfect match to the shape and size of your own property.
Since this is how it usually is for most do it yourselfers, designing a landscape design is best done in a different way. It’s best not to waste a lot of time looking for an exact plan that will fit your yard. When looking through different landscaping photos and ideas, try to identify the things that are alike in most or all of the landscaping ideas. Look for the common ideas that are used and repeated by different designers. These are the elements that look good because they are generally based on basic principles of art. These design elements will generally work for most designs and plans no matter what path the rest of the design takes.
Observe different forms and how they’re repeated, the placement of plants, and how colors are used. Consider the smaller details like plant color combinations, decor, and groups of other elements. Pay attention to the details of what makes landscaping what it is and not just the basics like simple shape. You’ll understand more about the way landscape design is put together which will help you create your own ideas.
Sometimes your best resource, there are endless ideas in other designs, books, landscaping pictures, or even landscaping videos. You’ll have better luck piecing different ideas from different plans together instead of trying to find the exact perfect design shape for your landscape. You’ll have a much better chance of creating a unique design as well as saving yourself a lot of frustration.
