Well stocked fishing ponds can be a good source of fish for supper or sport, yet a smaller pond can be something else entirely. These sorts of places are where many people spent time as kids, doing some quiet pond fishing with their dad or siblings or cousins. So fishing in a spot like this can be a nostalgic, almost a meditative experience as the person simultaneously fishes in the present and relives pleasant times in the past. Proper pond fishing here would suggest that rather than the person casting into the more open center, they should wade out themselves and cast parallel to the vegetation. Catfish, on the other hand, might need the fisherman to go out in a boat and drag the line along the bottom of the pond.
Pond fishing can be something you obsess over, requiring the type of finesse and precision it sometimes does take, or it can provide an opportunity to float lazily in a small boat and not worry about things. You may cast along the edges of the vegetation for bass, or let your line drag along the bottom if there are catfish in the pond. A healthy, clean fish pond can be simply a utilitarian place for catching supper, or it can be a place for doing a little reminiscing or a little dreaming.
