Building a wooden garden office provides a fantastic work space away from everyday family life and can add 30% to the value of your home. We all know that recent economic downturns have alerted everyone to the fragility of work for all workers, in all industries. Whether you work in banking or retail, or if you live in the South or the North – all of us have faced financial risks.

And as some of the blame for the credit crisis was laid on the housing market it is easy to forget that the house that started this crisis can also help rescue you.

On the back of economic uncertainty, there has been a marked increase in people setting up their own business. Starting out on your own can start with a lot of work in the evenings and weekends, even before you’ve quit your old job. The impact on your family life can be difficult. However if your house can accommodate a new business, it makes it all so much simpler, and you begin to see how it can all work out.

Imagine getting out the house by 7am every day to be at your desk working for someone else by 9am. Only to get home from work after 7 in the evening, too tired and grumpy to make the most of family time.

Here’s a new picture: rising at 8 in the morning in time for breakfast with family, wandering into a garden office where you work hard, but this time it’s for you. Then getting home at the end of the day when you want to – relaxed and with plenty of time to spend with your family.

Which would you prefer?

That’s why so many people are now using garden offices to set up new businesses – however, just because you have a garden room you don’t have to quit your job and start out on your own! That versatile space in your garden can be used as a spare bedroom, a games room, a study, or you can even rent it out. If you ever want to sell your house, you are safe in the knowledge that by building an attractive and usable garden office or summerhouse in your garden, you have also increased your house’s value.

One Bakers’ Timber Buildings customer said: “Originally we used the garden room as an office to start our business with desk and computer. Now we use it as a garden summerhouse and utility room fully insulated with heating and lighting”.

So what are you waiting for? At Bakers Timber’s workshop in Sussex there is a range of wooden garden offices that you can see on site; it will give you an idea of what you can achieve in your garden. Or go to their website ( www.bakerstimber.co.uk ) to read more.
